What is NLP?

 

You will find many answers to that question.  I explain it as a study in the way humans learn.  We learn all the time – not just at school.  As we go through life we learn to respond to things in certain ways. Sometimes that response is not useful.  NLP is a way of learning a new, more useful response, for issues that affect our development.

 

Will coaching fix me?

 

The approach of coaching is there is nothing broken to “fix”.  Coaching is not the same as training.  If I train you in something, I take what I know and try to teach it to you.  With coaching we take what you already have and use it to move you to where you want to be.  NLP helps find what you already have —you may discover you didn’t know you had it!

 

How does it work?

 

NLP coaching deals with process rather than content.  I don’t need to know how you got to where you are now, I just need to know where you want to go from today.  That means I don’t do counseling.  Homer Simpson says “why keep beating yourself up about something you have done?  Beat yourself once, and then move on!”

If you want to re-live all the “bad” things in your past again and again until you learn to live with them (and pay for it) then NLP is not for you. However if you want to focus on the way forward, and learn new techniques for your brain, the NLP is for you.
